On September 18, as part of the event “MADES in the Territory – Results for the Chaco”, El Retiro took part in a highly significant day for the region. The ceremony featured institutional and community achievements and included the signing of agreements that strengthen collaboration between the public and private sectors within the framework of sustainable production. The agreements were signed by Rolando de Barros Barreto Acha, Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development; Dr. Martin Alfred Vorderwuelbecke, President of El Retiro S.A.; and Ramiro Vargas Peña, President of ICCF Paraguay.
On this occasion, El Retiro and the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development (MADES) signed a Framework Agreement and a Specific Agreement focused on soil analysis in reforestation areas. The agreement establishes that MADES will carry out all soil sampling and analyses with its own laboratory equipment and professionals, applying methodologies accepted by VERRA, the leading international standard for carbon credit certification. For El Retiro, this step represents an important advance in the development of our carbon credit project, as it allows us to rely on technical results that are trustworthy, officially generated, and traceable. With the recent upgrade of MADES’s laboratory—now specially equipped for these analyses—we begin a stage in which the public and private sectors will work together on soil analysis and the generation of environmental data, strengthening transparency and contributing to the growth of a more solid carbon credit market in Paraguay.
In addition, a Specific Agreement was signed between El Retiro, MADES, and ICCF Paraguay. This agreement aims to move forward with the certification of sustainable beef under the Protected Productive Landscapes (PPP) standard, within the framework of the FOLUR project and with the technical support of WCS. This initiative promotes the integration of production and conservation, while also opening the door to markets that value sustainability as a core product attribute.
With the signing of these agreements, El Retiro takes another step in strengthening transparency in environmental information management and ensuring that our carbon credit projects are supported by solid technical and institutional backing. At the same time, we reaffirm our commitment to advancing sustainable production, integrating productive development and conservation within the framework of our reforestation project and responsible landscape management in the Chaco.
